Our First Alumalina Rally!

On our way back to Pennsylvania from Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort in late October, we stopped off in Marion, North Carolina, to participate in Alumalina 2020.  It was our first experience at this event. It was held at Tom Johnson’s Rally Park, which was without a doubt well suited to host the 180 plus Airstreams in attendance.

We had an awesome time and met lots of wonderful folks. We saw fellow Streaming Airheads Club Member and current President of the Central PA Club, Michael Read, and his wife, Jackie.

The weather in Marion was perfect, with temperatures in the mid-seventies. We spent a day hiking Mount Mitchell, which is the highest mountain east of the Mississippi.  The winding road up to Mount Mitchell had many scenic overlooks that provided plenty of photo opportunities. Although we were not there during peak season, the trees still had lots of color left.  The view from the top of Mount Mitchell was amazing, and we highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Who knew that Marion, North Carolina is the home of Bigfoot, not to mention the famous Bigfoot Festival?  We certainly did not. However, Bigfoot is a big deal in historic downtown Marion with Bigfoot flags adorning light posts and a statue of the famed beast somewhere in town, although we never saw it. Some fellow rally attendees relished in the opportunity to decorate their Airstreams and sites with Bigfoot signs and fun décor during the rally. One sign proudly proclaimed Bigfoot to be the social distancing champion of the world!

Major Airhead and Bigfoot!

Alumalina is known for many things, not the least of which is its famous Fish Fry on the last evening, and it did not disappoint.  The food, fun, camaraderie, seminars, and prize giveaways were the best!

We plan to return for Alumalina 2021.  Hope to see more from our Streaming Airheads Club there next year!

Libby was able to put her drone up and captured some photos. Hope you enjoy them!
